Ive decided to go with mesmer as my secondary. I wasted the entire night playing premade monk in the pvp area. Seems like half the people playing are W/Mo, and they just suck. Groups without a monk have absolutely no chance of even killing anyone in your party.

Well that is where rangers snare comes in handy and mesmer slows.
Also warriors get hamstring.
The PvP arena for insta-20's is severly unbalanced because the damage abilities in game right now are far weaker than monks out of the box heals.
Also the lack of organization doesn't help anything. Even if there is a good mesmer with good skills they can only do so much to shut down monks... they need the rest of their team to heal them and keep them from dieing... all while killing the enemies.
The monk stacked teams will always win out in the insta 20 PvP because there just isn't a lot of ways to effectively counter the outragous monk healing abilitiy. Wa/Mo can just charge in and with their basic melee sword skills are able to kill anyone relatively quickly.
A monk can be shut down with one mesmer combo ..
Backfire > Shatter Enchantment > Leech Signet
Backfire does damage if they cast a spell. Shatter Enchantment does damage and removes their HoT enchantments. Leech Signet is a no energy required interupt that gives you back energy.
Problem is they HAVE to be timed correctly or are a waste of energy and time. Their recharges are slow and they don't last very long on the target.
And these skills are relatively hard to find and relatively heavy on energy to use... so therefore a Wa/Mes isn't that good of a choice.
A couple other skills from mesmers are useful..

Diversion lasts 6 seconds and makes the recharge of any skill used during that time +47 seconds.

I think I need to remake my rp char, I accidently did the academy at level 3 and missed everything. Had a 4vs4 in insta pvp last for a full hour just a bit ago, really sucked. both groups were 2 w/mo and 2 mo/something

You don't miss anything Pre-Searing that you can't get in Post. Skillpoints for skills past 20 are endless, and Tourney PvP with Fame/Ranks gives you even more Skillpoints.
The only thing nice about questing and doing the pre-searing Quests are for skills you would normally have to pay a skillpoint for. Bacially it saves you time in the longrun, but if you miss a quest or 2 it won't bite you in the ass.

Spend some time in the first part of the game... when you see the warning that says "After this you can not come back" don't go until you feel ready.
I would say level 8 or so is good... that way the first few quests and missions in 5-10 world will go by smoothly and you can really start pounding out the missions.
