Guild Wars progress!!! my official review (long read)

Postby Adida » Mon Feb 21, 2005 1:04 am

So back in like september i preordered guild wars and got enrolled into the beta weekends. A couple of friends of mine in the area threw lans every weekend it went off. back then i thought the game was awsome but needed more content than just pvping and the instance quest things they had. (To sum up the instant quest thing in short it was like the instance mission things you had in coh but they actually told a story and the npcs were interactive.) There were a few weekends that i either had to work the whole weekend or made plans for which unfortunately conflicted with the GW beta. But this time Preem went to taho to go skiing so i had a very good chance to play. OK to the official review (i'll try hard not to be a fangirl)

Pro's
guild structure + friends
pvp rankings buy guild not individual
site to show pvp rankings
crafting system
instances for all combat zones pve + pvp
chat system
insta 20 levels and highest level 20

Con's
instance pve is mostly solo
guild structure (i'll go over it later)

ok lets go over guild structure it's awsome but it's bad at the same time I'll do the pro's first. It's great because once you delegate officers or people who can invite to the guild it has a history of everyone that was invited, who invited them, and what toon they were on when it happened. It gives the founding member's name so if you find anyone new you don't know it will say who invited them in the guild history which is great ^_^. It's biggest con is once you are in a guild your whole account is in the guild..... it's great in a way to make sure someone isn't doing a dual guild but it kinda sux when you want to keep main toons in the guild only. The same thing with the friend's list if you add someone as a friend it shows all of thier alts so no hiding unless you have a 2nd account. Like i said it's good but it could be bad depending on your goals in the game it self.

PVP rankings is great you have a tab to show your ranking on the system. It goes by fights won. You will ALWAYS have your 8vs8 or 8vs8vs8 or 8vs8vs8vs8 depending on how many people are pvping at the time. All pvp is instanced kinda like arenas :) I would also like to include the gw site does show guild rankings on pvp i don't know if they will have players listed on the site but it will be similar to the herald.

Crafting system YOU DON'T HAVE TO LEVEL A CRAFTER. pretty much you salvage everything you get with a salvaging tool you purchase then see a crafter then give him your stuff and they make it. So anyone can have some what custom armor. You still can do quests and kill tasks for armor and such but the crafted stuff is the best :)

Instances need i say more you can enter all instances grouped or solo (exept for the 8man pvp area and the guild combat area)

chat system is about the same still. if your friend isn't online or you need to leave a message you can send it and they will get it the next time they log on.

INSTA 20S ^_^ if memory serves me correct i think they are going to keep that in the live version. Which will be very beneficial because how many times have we all looked for healers..... With the insta 20's everyone can have a monk ( healer) as their backup if no real healers are on. not only that you don't have to level a toon up right away to enjoy the pvp thing.

OK cons

Instance pve through most of the beta i spent my time alone playing (but had a frigging blast) which is bad for meeting new people. I have met a lot of everone i know in an mmo in a pu pve group. I'm just talking the explorable places not the mission things.

I already went over the cons in guild structure hehe

to sum it all up gw does need some work but is far better than the E3 beta tha most of us tried. I just gotta say don't look down on the game just yet. I can see it appeal to most people. I know preem isn't gunna play it full time with me he will just use it as a secondary game due to the no monthly fee thing. and i gotta yell at law for a bit for showing me the link....... otherwise i would have brushed it off and wouldn't have been such a fangirl LOL
