Horde or Alliance?, PvP or Reg Server?, West or East coast?
Horde or Alliance?, PvP or Reg Server?, West or East coast?
With Open beta coming soon and release not far behind, I was wondering what if anything is set in stone at the moment?

I'm easy and will follow the pack but do intend going Horde since I really enjoy my UD mage and intend taking one to a high level in retail. Alliance for night elfs since they have the coolest model in-game imho but I don't care for toony gnome or dorf models and alliance zones feel like I'm playing daoc albion.
I haven't played the PVP server yet so I can't comment on it ... read the long FAQ but that's about it. PVE servers are a lot like DAOC regular servers in that you still have FVF (faction versus faction) /raids whenever you like.

As far as I can tell PvE servers are just attacking towns unless people want to fight back (no risk = no fun) or going to the battlegrounds to fight in an emain-esque type way. Depending on how well they impliment pvp will determine where my guild is going to play I think.

If we all go to the same serever, I don't think a pvp one would be all that bad.
As long as everyone can have at least a couple guildies on, It shouldnt be too bad.
But, I'll follow the pack regardless

Sirion has said all along he will be playing outside BWC with friends, although he would like to be on your server. I completely respect the blue server call for this type of guild but am also leaning towards a PvP server. BWC needs to do what is most comfortable for it's membership majority and everything else will sort out. I always play PvP servers and honestly enjoy the anticipation of being ganked or unscheduled PvP. I guess I'm fucked up like that

Not yet. The 'honor' system is junk atm as well. I can be attacked by someone 10 levels below me and kill the aggressor and still be charged with a 'dishonorable kill. QQ
PvE gamers is why MMO's are made. That IS the majority audience in MMO gaming and anyone is fooling themselves if they believe it is not. I have no problems with that but frankly am not going to invest 30 hours a week spamming the same buttons over and over brainlessly killing unintelligible AI with a bunch of AFK fucks.
I like to be stimulated (in more ways then one most of the time
) and for me in MMO game play; that means knowing I killed something with a pulse even if that pulse is sitting on the other side of a separate monitor. I'm happy when I have the comfort of knowing someone else is cursing the whole way back from their death runs or come back to spam 'middle finger' macros at me. To each his own but I agree PvP gamers (people that get excited about it) are not the norm and there is nothing wrong with either type of game play as long as you are enjoying yourself. You also will be able to PvP on blue servers of course.

I think the big problem on PVP (honor crap) will be roaming groups of lvl 20-30 somethings trying to gank level 50+. Level 50 defends himself and kills a few each one an honor hit.
Honor system should not make it to PVP server.
Also I'd like to see cash drop. There is nothing to discourage lower levels from whacking higher levels at all.

Daoc didnt have any rewards for pvp for the first few months

50 spiritmaster, 50 shaman, 50 shaman, 50 bard, 50 druid, 50 chanter, 50 necro, 50 minstrel, 50 healer, 50 runemaster, 60 hunter, 60 warrior, 60 druid and 60 paladin

Hey all,
Sorry for the inactivity but college life is hard to juggle time between work and football. Having football 6 hours a day is no fun and tires the hell out of me. But my season ends in 3 weeks just in time for the release of WoW. So I will be playing alot more then since I am a video game nerd.
I say we go to a PvP server. Although it does suck getting ganked while your farming for an item for hour upon hours. But the anticipation of someone just randomly attacking you is awesome. Its kind of like a mild version of Mordred. But it will be a bit harder to get to at lower levels.
Just my 2c. Cya all soon. - Magyk

May as well post this here as well (put it in pvp vs. pve poll)
My knowledge of the two servers so far - perhaps Law or Filth can add to this:
Common Between Two
- Still Two factions: Horde and Alliance
- PVP is available on both servers albeit PVE servers limited form
- Honor system applies for PVP kills (see below for details)
PVP
- contested (can be owned by either faction) world zones comprise the bulk of the world and are considered hostile (pvp flag always on).
- faction permanently owned zones are only lowbie areas (1-20 lvl max)
PVE
- bulk of your faction's teritory is safe unless your /pvp flag is on (5 min timer) or you attack an alliance. If you venture into known enemy faction territory guard NPC will attack you onsight and if your pvp flag is on other players can/will attack you.
Interesting Post From Blizzard on PVP in general:
Some people are confused about player vs. player combat on our faction war server. This isn't our PVP yet. All that happened was being able to attack/target other factions (previously impossible), and the Green/Red/Yellow zone flags.
This is far from complete.... read our original update...
The Horde vs. Alliance race war server will establish a straightforward method for the development team to test and balance the races and classes in a PvP environment. PvP concepts will be gradually introduced on this server. This means that the initial implementation of PvP is not how our final model will work once World of Warcraft is released. This patch includes the fundamental ideas of PvP in order to tune and refine the very foundation of our PvP model.
So we added this just so we can test class balance and faction balance. We'll continue to add minor things, make balance changes, and special rules until the PVP is actually in the game. Until then, don't confuse what we have now with the final "WoW PVP."
Obvious issues....
Low level ganking
Horde vs. Alliance Balance (we'll continue to work on it)
reward, punishment, REASON (besides fun) for pvp
killing of important NPCs (flight guys)
body camping
Thanks for your patience while waiting for changes... The feedback is all making its way to the development team for future changes...

Honor System
Primary reason for this is to discourage low level ganking. Problem with this is that high levels take a honor hits for everyone they attack that is lower than their level regardless of whether the lowbie started attacking them.
