A tourist walks n km at 4km/h and then travels 2n km at 36km/h by bus. Express the toal traveling time in t (in hours) as a funciton of n.

i hate these things

f(n) = (1/4)n + (1/36)n * 2
f(n) = (9/36)n + (2/36)n
f(n) = (11/36)n
f(18)=(11/36)18
f(18)= 5.5 hours

18km @ 4km/hr = 4.5 hours
36km @ 36km/hr = 1 hour
4.5 + 1 = 5.5

right ?

is it right? it has been a while. what i tried was.....

(walk time) + (bus time) = total time

Walk time = Nkm * 1hr/4km (the km cross each other out and you are left with hours)

bus time = 2nkm * 1hr/36km

leads you to
n/4 + 2n/36= t
or
n/4 + n/18=t

common denominator.......

18n/72 + 4n/72=t

22n/72=t

11n/36=t

i would try that out before usign it (make n = a random number and see if it works out)
