OK here is what Barbos is talking about. Barbos feel free to add comments brotha as I am fairly busy for the next few weeks.

Barbos has the old BWC site and we are talking about putting it at a www.bloodwinterclan.com URL. We also have this site Ting set up. It makes sense to make a quick desicion so neither Ting nor Barbos have to waste their time and expend more effort. Let these guys know one way or another Super and gang. GL

Ting, you were asking about merging the information.

It's not that easy.

The last DB backup I did, was 48 megs for the phpbb core, and about 12 megs for the extras (calendar and spell checker and such) The DB restore process wasn't really built for files of this size, so you may waste 30 minutes trying to send to file to find out it was a failure.

Plus, you now would have two user bases, with two different sets of user id's and two set's of post ids, topic id's, forum id's and everything.... NOTHING will match up. (And you would have duplicates, which one set would be trashed)

I was hoping to try and move to a domain this weekend (which was Law's plan all along).. and was hoping if it was alright with you, to try and merge your existing information (or at least the important threads and such) with the previous stuff. As Moving 500 posts and 78 users, is much easier than nearly 12000 posts and 630 users.

I was hoping to do this soon, as the longer we wait, the harder it is to merge together. It will be a manual process, but I'm willing to donate my time, all I need is some help matching users from the new boards to the old boards.

There's not easy simple solution, it's going to be manual (whether altering the data manually, or manually creating an automated script), and time consuming, but I am willing.

I'm ready to purchase the domain, and have it ready for this weekend, but all I'm waiting for is an ok on the situation. (As I don't want to put money into it, acting alone, with no certaincy that it falls within people's wishes).

I was looking more in moving the forums to the domain, and getting people used to working with that address... Then slowly building a site from there.

I definately don't plan to just throw up a site, just to have a site...

just my opinion, i've really not been active in game for a while (just kinda in hibernation.. still have the daoc accounts), so these boards do mean a lot to me. they let me keep up to date with whats going on, so whenever i feel i can make a comeback, i won't be completely lost/oblivious to whats going on.
