Mosthula and niko/serephina are playing AO a lot again lately waiting for SWG. They got me and saphyre to try it again, and honestly, it is exactly the same as it was on release, just without the crashes. Everyone talks about how great the new missions are, etc. They put in 9 static dungeons, which are huge and kind of fun, but overall the game is just as boring as it was on release, IMO.

The shadowlands looks ok, but the base game plus the first expansion is still just kinda blah. No point to it really.

A few things AO did get right and I think all future games should take notice of....200 levels. AWESOME. so it may just be a perception thing, but what sounds more fun to you, going from 20th to 21'st level, or going from 80'th to 84th, in 1 night of playing.

The linking items into chat so that they can simply click on the underlined word to view the item. Unbelievably cool to tell your group members the cool loot you just got, or trying to sell.

Lots of motion capturing, emotes, actions, etc.

But to me the heart of the game is just boring. 70-80% of what you fight is just a human or zombiefied humanoid, and that gets old to me quick. They have a few neat creatures, but blah. And the pvp seems very class dependent, and yeah the notum towers helped but it is still very pointless seeming.
Venderic, Candide or Mercutio in games.
