E6420 4M Cache 2.13ghz 1.35v (Recommended)

Max I had it up to was like 3.5-3.6ghz @1.5v Max heat I ever put on the core itself was 60c under load (thats directly from the chip heat sensor not the MB sensor and was testing only)

So yea 2 months later the Chip gave out running I think 3.4 or 3.5 @ 1.3-1.4v and were talking heat of 40C under full load with a thermalright Ultra 120 extreme

I admit I ran days and days of stress testing on the chip before I finally settled on a rock solid speed, I'm pretty surprised the chip blew 6 months later after that.

So I mailed the chip back to intel last week, they got it on Monday, and shipped me a new chip on tuesday. I'm kind of in shock because I was expecting them to reject the CPU for voiding the warranty and classifying it as customer neglect/misuse. I'm either really lucky and slipped threw the cracks or they just don't care, after all the chip probally costs 2cents to make hehe..

Nice one Tingster.

I had concerns that the stock CPU fan wasn't cutting the 15% OC'ing i had put on my Q6600 so today i installed my new Asus Silent Knight II.

Works like a charm

yea just got my CPU back today, and it's a brand new one. HOORAY!!

I'll probably see what I can get with recommend voltage and go no further. I'm happy with the way the Core2 Duo performs, and no need putting on extra stress for 100-200mhz gains which is minimal at best.

I figure if I can get 3.3ghz-3.4ghz outa a stock voltage rated 2.13ghz I should be happy. No need pushing 3.5-3.6 with voltages that exceed the CPU recommended design. Altho heat was never an issue I do feel like overvolting the CPU is a real threat.

Well, I finally got my main gaming rig back up and running nearly a month after this whole fiasco began. I RMA'd the Asus P5K Motherboard, Corsair 2GB XMS2 (PC2-8500) 1066mhz memory, and obviously my Intel 6420 Chip.

After Asus sent me 2 Bad Boards the 3rd one was the charm which is what took so long. Corsair didn't have my memory in-stock so they replaced it with 2GB Dominator (PC2-10000) 1250Mhz Memory fo FREE. Hello $500 memory!

I'm still surprised my machine failed 6months after using it, specially after giving it a battery of tests and encoding with it damn near everyday. I took my memory to my buddy after I shipped out the CPU and Mobo, I guess BOTH sticks failed. My guess is the CPU and original motherboard were fine after all. Go figure! Anyways new toys to play with again WEE!! comon 1300Mhz FSB!
