adding new sata drive having probs

i cant the pc to recognize the connection...i have power flowing 1 cd drive not connected 1 dvd drive as master

and the SATA HDD is not being detected..

ive got the sata cable running from HDD to sata port 1
power cable hooked up
theres a configuration slot but i cant seem to find the cable is that cable necessary?

Make sure it's turned on in the BIOS. Some boards use raid controllers for all their sata slots, so you have to turn the raid controller on, even if you aren't using it for raid. Then you have to install the raid controller driver in windows.. :huh:

Not sure what you mean by configuration slot. Is it similar to the sata connection, except about twice the width? If so, that may be the SATA power connector. Many sata drives have both the regular and sata power connectors on the drive. However, you should only use one or the other.

i got all problems fixed and i am now speaking from the fixed PC

hd didnt have power cable or sata cable hooked up?

You connected the SATA cable from some other device to the HDD, instead of to the mobo?
