Computer Trouble...

Over the last day or two, I've had some problems playing DAOC. First, I blue screened on login, ok, re-boot, blue screen, re-boot, this time fine, never had that problem again.

So, I continue to play DAOC, but with the odd crash. Weird, but playable.

Now today, I try to log into Sven at Aegir, the the game completly crashes.

I play in windows mode, using a 1.4 amd, 512 ram, windows 98, geforce t t-4200.

As well, when I open My Computer, and look at the system, then Device Manager, I get a problem with Rundll32, says an error has occured.

Now, I'm guessing something is corrupted in my system, or I have a virus, or something.

Any help would suffice, other words, I have to bring this piece of crap into the shop and pay some twirk 50 bucks an hour to look at it

LOL great sig man.

I am having issues as well. I tried installing new RAM and my comp is down.

It ends up I needed some RAM bus (shitty stuff my comp takes). I bought 256 megs but fumbled the install. May have either not grounded myself correctly; although I was carefull, or fucked up one of the chips carrying them around the store and in my truck. Working on it ASAP but I am wiped after the card+new RAM (200$ total) for now.

Do u have any anti virus insatlled. If not get GAV is free and does a good job of protecting ur system. Also make sure ur cpu or graphics card is not overheating and that ur power supply can supply enough to ur system, specially on the 12 volt rail.

If everything checks out u could try to reformat

U don't need ur cd key once ur account is activated. Just press enter when it askes for the cd key.

Errors with run32 dll definitely means something is foobar'd at the system level.

Follow Dyarg's suggestions first.

Another thing to do if that doesn't help is apply the Win 98 updates from Microshaft ... this copies in new/updated system DLL's sometimes.

Lastly you may need a re-install of OS :( May be better in the long run in case other items were affected.

yeah, I've tried everything at this point. Some files I think already got too fucked to do anything at this point.

I'm going to bum a Windows Xp Home off a friend and just format and re-install. Will be better in the long haul.

Thanks for all the help.

XP home has a single license, you need to call them each time you install it on a new PC.
XP pro has a multiple use license, and you can use it on up to 3 pcs i think before you have to call them.

XP pro doesnt require calling in to validate...so its good as many times as you want.

Does Windows XP not format the hard drive upon install but layer itself on top of Windows 98?

So, do I need to format 98, install that, then install XP over top?
