quick one

someone told me that AMD processors say something like

AMD Venice 3200+ but the details say 2.0g but he said the AMD go by a different thing in which the 3200_ means it actually runs stronger than 2.0g

does that mean it has the Possibility of being stronger with OC or it comes like that outta the box?

he said the 3200+ meant it ran 3.2g compared to a Intel board

yea, your friend is right.

3200+ certainly doesn't mean it runs at 3.2GHz.

With that said,

http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/2004122 ... ts-18.html
http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/2004122 ... ts-21.html
http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/2004122 ... ts-22.html

The #s in the parenthesis are the details:
(#A/#B #C #D)
#A - Clock Speed
#B - FrontSideBus Speed (how fast it can talk to your motherboard essentially)
#C - The Chipset model #
#D - The RAM type/speed.

did u mean my friend was wrong?

cause he said it DID run at that speed not that it did'nt.

oh on that list i don't see the Venice.......

It means an AMD that has a real speed of 2.0 (or whatever it is) has the equivalent processing power as a Intel running at 3.2ghz (or whatever it is)

The AMD 3200+ means to compare it to a Intel 3200 roughly.

Yeah, its a marketting thing.

Lots of consumers would obviously buy an Intel 3.2 Ghz chip over an AMD 2.0 Ghz chip thinking it was much faster.

Since in reality it isn't, AMD calls it a 3200.

ok i thought so.

shit .

well heres my thing i want a good rig but i having seen those comparisons and from other people telling me unless i spent a GOOD amount of money on video card and pci board i wouldnt see the magnificent shit i would expect

so im thinkin should i upgrade to a medium pci board say 120-150 bux or a 120 agp8x with a x800pro and venice board

all assuming amd atm.
