This is why Guild Wars will be a success

Guild Wars Website wrote: Something that certainly makes Guild Wars different then most traditional MMO’s is the fact that your gear does not define your character. While gear certainly influences your success it does not dictate it as with too many other games. Armor is never dropped by monsters; you must visit a Crafter and have them craft for you each piece of armor at the cost of GP and some craft materials. Weapons are dropped by monsters however. You may or may not be able to find that Dragon Sword of your dreams from monsters and you may have to trade for it, in which case you should be prepared to trade with someone.

You mean it a game where actual Skill is involved?

Yes

Do you have to zerg to win?

no

Will I need Radar to Win?

Yes but it's built into the game

I'm a poor college student I can't afford another $15 a month!!

Take your Girlfriend out for a steak dinner then cause there is no subscription fees

I'm not a PvP player I like to farm so I can sell on ebay...

This isn't the game for you then.

Guild wars pvp >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> WoW PVP

At least for now.

Because there is a purpose to it, because skill of a group is required more than collecting all the best items, and because everyone should be fighting people their own level instead of grey ganking to prove their skillz.

And here is another thing that pisses me off about WoW pvp:
DAOC pvp was at it's best before TOA came in and made everyone grind their ass off at level 50 to get all the special abilities and I-win items. If you read these and other boards, thats when people say DOAC pvp started going downhill.

Geee... thats how WoW pvp starts out! WoW is a item based game much more than a skill based game, and certainly not a group teamwork game as much as I'm used to with 3 years of DAOC. I'm sorry fanbois, but it is. He who can go to schlomox20, strathx20, MCx10, DMx10 can kick the ass of he who can't. Grind away to become competive baby!

WoW is just a prettier version of EQ. And thats no compliment.

EQ >>>>>> WOW in terms of a game experience imo. I really find it amazing that our guild continues to make WoW our primary game... it sucks IMO I cancelled and im in guildwars full time.

Ting started playing this morning and hes level 10 (out of 20) already so it goes to show you how much grind there is before you can pvp (almost none) This game is gunna rock and I hope we can get alot of people from BWC to come over..... come on in the waters fine! :D

I started GW tonight from the beta copy I had and I got to level 6 in no time. The quests are pretty cool and somewhat fun.

But if you don't want to quest, pick a pvp character from the get go. Instant level 20 PvP character. This would be alright for healing types and such, but as a Warrior/Monk combo which I am playing the gear I need to keep myself up is well worth the leveling.

20 is not hard to get. But like I said, instant fix for pvp. Make one and go for it! They have a ton of templates to choose from.

I don't think WoW's system is too bad, but it definately gave me flash backs of when RA's came out for DAoC. IMO RA's were the begining of the downfall for DAoC... where it was obvious the elite few were going to have another # to brag about.

WoW is POSSIBLY a good system. The way it was introduced... no. If this system was in on day one... we all would of grown up with ranks and red=dead mentalities. However since it was dropped in a patch after 50% of the population hit 60... 50% of the population is zerging up every windrider and town this side of Ogrimmar.

The PvP rewards are fine... giving you some nice rewards for the lower ranks. Something that allows people that don't farm MC, Scholo, etc... a chance at some OK gear.

WoW PvP suffers from a few big flaws... bringing more flashbacks of DAoC.

1. Rewards are tied to a static numbered system. Get 1000 points and get this. The only place they avoided this was with the top ranks... which are competed for... sadly though only for the l33ts.

2. DAMAGE IS INSANE! 2-3 hits from rogues on cloth... anyone say PA? However the whole game of WoW is built around fast combat and fast to the point gameplay. Little penelty for anything. Sadly you get raised on 60 levels of fast gameplay to be dumped on with 3-5 hour instance runs unless you have the perfect group.

3. Rogues! The #1 played class for a reason. DPS is king in WoW. In instances and in PvP... DPS > all. Conquest recently dropped the hardest boss in game with an entire rogue raid... not a healer to be seen. If Cheaterquest is abusing it... it probably isn't what the developers had in mind. Rogues are slowly but surely turning into DAoC stealth groups...

Someone should go ahead and make these gamers their own Stealh Warz Online... blah.

Ok rant off...

Guild Wars.

The only thing right now I have a problem with is... just being lost. Lost on where to get the skills I want. Lost on how different things work. Too much was handed to me in the WPE and BWE's... leaving me totally lost with release.

Don't be fooled... there is a grind to be had. Doing the quests to get skills and farming up materials for your gear... is time consuming. In the end game of Guild vs Guild combat... every little bit will help.

Also guild wars has a big loophole.... or IMO it does... Monk healing is E-Z mode for the entire game. There is effectively few counters to monk healing.

1. Damage. Duh! Sadly not even the super high damage dealers will break through monk healing. It requires coordinated focus fire... and even then may require the right anti monk tactics.

2. Mesmers... are the clarified ownerz of Monks, but mesmers who aren't warrior mains... are fodder and die fast.

The game really seems to me a balance between mesmers and monks... anti monk...

This really bugs me because it really limits creativity in the end game PvP.

But I will wait to make my final judgement when I get into some good 8vs8 guild fights with various builds :)

Either way... GW still rox.

WoW is teh suck

as for stopping monks from healing, im pretty sure most classes have a skill that can interrupt casting a spell. I know as an air elementalist I will have 2 or 3 skills that can do this. I wouldnt make any judgements about the endgame pvp until you get there.

also about the grind... yes its there... but i personally find it enjoyable and its alot shorter than most mmos. Hell its been out less than a week and I'm already 14. Ting Tong is 20 already.

Tingtong is only 20?... I figured he'd be close to 40 ... the grind must be quite slow ;)
