Savage is a session-based 3D squad combat game with a single commander running a team RTS-style and the units played by the rest of the players (like Allegiance). The setting is Man vs. Beast, primitive technology vs. magic. No persistent world (therefore no months of levelling) just persistent rankings.

Looks fun, a little confuse on how the commander will command the troops...

It will be similar to the natural selection mod....He will issue orders and assign waypoints for the team as a whole or individually. It is up to the players if they want to actually follow these orders or not.
