Wednesday evening, July 21st, the realm of Hibernia on the Merlin server had a meeting. Almost all guilds were represented (except some of our European and Asian guilds), and we discussed the option of boycotting RvR en masse in response to glaring population imbalances.

The battlegroup was full and consistented of about 90% of our RvR population, since we rarely exceed 180 or so level 50s online at one time. Our overall objective was stated: to induce Mythic to produce results regarding the glaring imbalances in population. In order to achieve this objective, we proposed a boycott of New Frontiers RvR (where the population imbalances are most glaringly obvious) - our boycott meaning no RvR outside of the battlegrounds or running on a level 50 stealther. We allowed those in opposition to voice their concerns in the battlegroup. We further allowed those in support to offer suggestions on how to alleviate the population imbalance. Our discussion was productive in that regard, and those suggestions will be posted in this petition.

What we are trying to do on Merlin is to end RvR as we know it - in short, to remove the 3 way realm RvR dynamic such that the server becomes completely stagnant and New Frontiers RvR becomes nonexistant. This is not intended to blackmail Mythic into immediately doing something about New Frontiers RvR and its glaring imbalances (primarily population imbalances); rather, our objective is to place pressure on Mythic to at least acknowledge the problem publically and inform us of possible solutions, or, at the VERY least, have Matt Firor or another producer let us know via the Herald that Mythic is hard at work on a solution to the population problem alongside the other New Frontiers problems. Many of the Hibernians on this server, in fact the majority, love this game. Many have been playing the game since release, and remain because they enjoy the game. However, we want to see results. Many of us, in fact the majority of us, believe that Mythic does not want to see its customer base unhappy - that Mythic truly wants to make an enjoyable game, and is not simply interested in the almighty dollar. Our protest is based upon this assumption, and the fact that we can let Mythic know, en masse, how unhappy we are, and that because of this, we can induce Mythic to provide solutions, i.e. results, to fixing the #1 problem in New Frontiers: population imbalance.

Our boycott is therefore to ONLY RvR in the battlegrounds or on a level 50 stealther. Guilds in support of this boycott /gc released their towers and keeps tonight. We hope this extreme measure, combined with our boycott, will so skew the server that maximum pressure will be applied to the company we are trusting to fix New Frontiers.

To the Midgard players on Merlin, we invite you to also boycott RvR and only play in the Battlegrounds or on a 50 stealther.

To Hibernian and Migard players on other servers, we invite you to join in the boycott if you wish, and feel free to copy this post to other boards.

To Mythic, we offer this petition, detailing our actions, why we took them, and what we hope to accomplish, in an attempt to create results. We have appreciated your hard work in creating Frontiers, but we simply cannot sit around forever suffering from some of the extreme balance issues that New Frontiers has created. It has lowered game enjoyment to an all-time low for a game we love to play. We therefore offer this petition, our boycott, and the following solutions in an effort to speed up the process of reconciling New Frontiers' balance issues.

PROPOSED SOLUTIONS FROM OUR MEETING:

-Unless your account already has a level 45+ (level subject to modifying) character on an overpopulated realm/server, your account is prohibited from creating new characters on that realm/server.

-Reintroduce /level 30, but up it to /level 35 or 40. With ToA and MLs, there will be no shortage of timesinks that will extract further play time and enjoyment from the community even with /level 30 and /level 35. New Frontiers, when properly balanced, will also be an enjoyable timesink that will induce players to play long hours. Moreover, levels 35-50, or even 40-50 are plenty of time to learn the character you are playing, especially with the enjoyment to be had in the battlegrounds.

-Take the ratio of Albion Total Population : Hibernia Total Population and translate that into an experience multiplier. This would be a flat multiplier that would add experience bonuses in addition to Frontier/Outpost experience bonuses. This multiplier could also be used to increase coin drops, or the rate of random artifact drops/item drops. (The same could be done for Albion Total Population : Midgard Total Population).

-Increase the Guild Bounty Point costs for claimed keeps/towers based upon a population multiplier similar to the previous suggestion.

-Allow Albs on overpopulated servers to transfer their character, with MLs, artifacts, items in inventory, and cash intact, to an underpopulated Hib or Mid realm. Scouts would translate into Rangers/Hunters. Any cloth caster could translate into any Mid/Hib cloth caster. Clerics would translate into Healers/Druids, Friars would translate into Bards/Shamans, etc. It could be implemented similar to /charcopy, though admittedly more complex.

These are a few of our suggestions, more can undoubtedly be found on the VN boards thread where this original petition was posted for copying to Herald feedback.

Our realm is strongly united behind this boycott and there is wide support (much more widespread support than many of us thought when we first proposed the idea of the boycott). We hope that we can make a difference.

On a final note, let it be said that we all appreciate the game you, Mythic, have created for us. It has provided countless hours of enjoyable entertainment. We simply want to add that we are undertaking this boycott, and advocating it elsewhere, not out of spite, not in an effort to "ruin" DAoC, or make people /cancel, or to harm Mythic as a company, but in an effort to improve the game we love and get the ball rolling. We appreciate your hard work and look forward to a response (hopefully a public one detailing what steps are being taken) to this petition. Thank you very much for reading.

Since alot of ppl from the BWC alliance are half-retired every change will be very welcome imo.

I can remember when about 40 hibs camped vasudheim, in a protest. I think that was on MLF, they were there for a hour I guess before they got removed

I have replied on VN and will here also. I support anything simliar that you guys would all like to do. I am on a break from the game but will come back just for this.

But I don't think population is the only problem. I think the absense of different styles of RvR is the problem. 8 vs 8 being gone. A place to generally RvR like emain being gone. People that liked to roam through DF being gone. Granted I didn't do some of that but I did participate in all of that from time to time. Mass zerging every night is not my cup of tea. I like doing a zerg now and then you all know that. But it being forced on us is what I am unhappy about.

Population is not the only thing. As you can see Redux is on a break from this game mostly. Alot of us are unhappy with New Frontiers. It pulled the wind out of our sails for DAoC.

Looking at a keep wall for 5 hours at a time was not something we where interested in.

If mid does a boycott it needs to include the return of game play styles that are now gone not just "population". But I will stand behind anything that gets done in a postive manner. I will be the mouth of the Redux alliance if need be. And you all know I can have a pretty big mouth if I want to.

This will work. Let Alb have everything post idea's on how to change this and have mid sign it. Remove RvR from the game on our server totally. Let every damn keep belong to Alb... Let them have the whole thing. Hell we don't have any relics anyway.

Maybe if Mythic understands we are unhappy with this expansion they will think harder before changing the end game in such a drastic manner. I am sorry this is best idea that has ever come from Hib.

Problems I see with NF: (Agree or not this is what I see.)

This is basic ideas I have. Or opinions...

Porting: Porting is a bad idea. Make is too easy for people to defend a keep. There is no suprise now at all. No more the thrill of getting to keep and the danger of doing it alone. Or three of you when the uber super group was roaming our lands. Sieging a keep for 5 hours is not fun I am sorry I puts me to sleep.

Keeps and sieging: Keeps take too long to siege. They need to be changed so keep sieges can be done with a smaller amounts of people. 100 people having to siege a keep did nothing but pull the realm apart. Arguements in BGs helped kill this realm. It helped make up peoples minds to say "Screw it" and leave RvR or leave the game. I have a job I can't be involed the 5 hour siege of one keep. 3 to 5 hour sieges helped fuel the arguements. Having to have 100 people to do anything keep wise helped to fuel the arguements. (Not meant as a slam to people without jobs in anyway. You know what I mean I am sure.)

NPC boats: These boats coming into a hot area was insane! (Or a campable area) The idea of having a PK was way better IMO. A guildmate coming on after your guild is in another realm makes it hard from them to get to us. With the PK idea a guild mate could come on an meet up with us quickly. This is now gone because one dude on that boat can't make it. Or gets ganked if he or she doesn't jump. The boats should come into a secure area like the old PK's. Therefore making ralling easier again.

Choke points: They don't exsist anymore! No way to stop the enemy realm from coming back. Mythic promised more choke points in NF. They where wrong.

General RvR area: I saw some post from Joshll on a idea of making a BG area for the end game. Returning the idea of emain back to the game. These where great idea's IMO. Granted I didn't go to emain too much. But hell even I had alot of fun there when I did go. I feel sorry for the people that truely enjoyed that. If you didn't want to siege keeps or protect the homeland you could go to emain. Granted alot of people bitched about emain and how those people could help defend homeland. But looking back who am I to say how people want to play the game they pay for. Emain was great for all.

Realmwar map: I hate this thing. Seeing fights and seeing keeps burning is only adding to the 2 realms against one. Relic raids are basically announced to the whole server and all realms by this damn map. There is no surprizes anymore with this realm war map. Navigation?!?! Super! But knowing everything that is going on is just plain dumb. This works in games like Planetside but we don't play Planetside so lets keep it there. They removed cross realming from the game. They gave it to all of us.

This map is the single most reason why 2 realms work against the other. People would like to think it is a organized thing or a hateful thing. But it is not. It is simply the other realms looking for where the fight is. It is so wrong in my opinion I could go on for hours on this one thing messed this game up.

I miss my old friends and guilds we used to play with in the old frontiers. I miss roaming odins trying to stop the attack of our realm. I miss playing with Acendancy and BWC just as a few groups in Odin just fooling around 8 vs 8 and backing each other up if need be. Hehe Acendancy had to bail us out many times but damnit we all had fun with that. Now it is a huge zerg fest and port fest with no skill clicking one button on my spread heal or melees clicking one button on their siege equipment. I never thought I would say it because I am a Mythic supporter generally but they messed up this game big time.

My point of this message is I would like to see some of these idea's incorporated into a orgainized post accompanied with a boycott on VN. VN is good for one thing. Getting a message out. Hell I would love to move my characters and guild to classic RvR server for that matter.

I like most of the changes with NF... just not the part where 8v8 is nonexsistent, and the part where melee is worthless. I think seiges should be harder(refer back to that later). That way you can go to sleep and wake up and still have your keep. I do not think an enemy fortress should be in your homeland. The only place where stealthers can kind of camp is the docks, and you have 4 options on which dock to take, so that is not really a problem. If riding the boats is a problem the jump early...

Things I do not like...
limited number of seige on parts of the keep/tower. If we get 200 people then we should be able to put up 200 trebs and treb it to death.
Everyone can seige. Sorry, a noodle armed caster should not be able to seige.
Melee should do more damage to keeps/towers
Porting.. I think it is an ok idea, but needs to be worked on. You should not be able to port anywhere near a keep under attack imo.
RW map... Gayness. no one knows the frontiers anymore.
RKs... nough said...
Very few choke points and all easily avoided.
no place to "just" RVR.

The 2 basic probs I see in NF atm is it is to dependent on population, and the uselessness of melee. The pop really hurts hib, and since there is no where for the dumbass albs to go zerg at they just ALL zerg together now. used to be half on raids and half in emain. now they just all together.
