/as Usage

First, I'd like to say that I am a FIRM supporter of utilizing /as as one means of communicating rvr-related and pertinent info (in addition to cg of course)

Having said that, I'd also like to refer to items 5 and 6 on the alliance rules sticky thread by Gundorf (2nd post above). It states that /as is rvr-related ONLY when there are relic raids going on, or when otherwise broadcast that /as is to be used for rvr-only (at certain points in time)

So, why do we see so much of "cut the spam in /as" and "knock it off, that isnt rvr-related msgs in /as" Seems we have people that generally just want to be negative towards their alliance mates when they have no basis (see items 5 and 6 in alliance rules thread)

I propose that we either, change the stated rules (seems a bit harsh to me personally) - OR - layoff the negativity towards others use of /as if possible. Persecution sucks

:)

just trying not to have th e/as become an aol chatroom,... i'm sure we have all been in an allieance which the /as was used for all sorts of spam, whereas you would have to shutit off just to be able to reead your /gu and /g

but yes.. we should always respect others in our /as =)

I do see /as with lots of non rvr stuff in it alot lately. I guess it comes down to the fact that 1/2 of it is people wanted to buy or looking for stuff. I think BWC did a great job of Making a place for that here on the Forums and people need to use it more.

Secondly with the alliance spending more time in ALb and Still alot in Emain its very hard to keep /as clear with reports of both lands coming in and all the Alb relicing of late.

Now lets add in a Raid-- SH, TG, whatever.

Now you have people asking for people who want to Quest with them

And of course the ever popular DF/HL Spam.

IMO you add all that to /broad chat when i am crafting or guild and chat groups when I am rvring its enough to drive you batty. So if its too much i will turn it off.

By yelling and complaining and being rude you only add to more spam. everythign I mentioned above is alliance related in one way or another. So I do think people need to be a little nicer when someone ask once for something when /as is not Announced as RVR only. However repeated Spam could be asked to stop.

Can't we all play nice???

I agree with you, Yipee. If there is not something special going on in RvR (like a relic raid) you should be able to talk freely in the alliance chat, but we must keep at a mature level. We cant have people shouting at each other etc, but when its a little friendly talk, what's the harm?

Although, we can't have any trading talk in the alliance chat. That will end up with people saying WTB/WTS/WTT this and that all the time. Use the market on the forums here instead (which I wish more people would use).

only thing i would really suggest is amending rules to state that any person telling another not to spam /as should do so in a private message.

why?

well first "/as stop spamming /as!" is only adding to the spam often :P. second, noone likes to be reprimanded in public and doing so often leads to petulant fights. the major alliance on alb/tristan has this as its very first rule because with 1294 seperate accounts in the alliance public reprimanding causes both tempers to flare and (ironicly) more spam regarding /as spam.

if i really have a problem with anything said on /as i usually just ask for an officer or gm of that guild and take it to them. i guess the reason for this is most ppl are more likely to listen to their gm than a total stranger jumping down their throat over a comment made on /as.

Nice point Danni, I'll talk to the officers.

The rules are the way they are because many of us had to endure the Myth /as for a while and it was ridiculous. There are 600+ people in this alliance. That is a lot of different opinions and ideas to have broadcast over /as. If you want to chat use /gu.

Hey fellas sorry I was late getting to this thread. I would like to refer you to http://board.barbos.net/viewtopic.php?t=1143&start=0. Also Ugnot said Watch the /as spam please which hardly justifies harsh treatment. No one wants to police /as but no one wants the Myth /as so it's easier to manage by not bending the rules RR or not. This /as may not be for everyone and can safely say that some people in BWC would even like a chattier alliance. Most of us however do not along with CQ, <F>, MF etc. I think this sums it up (taken from the link I gave) -

Most of the guilds in this alliance have two things in common.
1) They focus on the RvR area of DAoC
2) Most of us come from spam alliances we could not handle

I do not want to make the distinction of when "something" is going on and something is not. It is much easier to say please use /as for announcements and RvR only. Everyone has a guild chat and the chat group option to yak with their buddies.

I think one thing is that whining in /as has to go. I think it was Saturday I logged in to find a few ppl whining that they were reprimanded for using /as to trade or using /as for emain when the alliance was in Albion.

This board is the right place to talk about things you think are wrong with alliance. /as is not for whining.

One idea .... If we want a general chatter/trade channel for alliance (which may be fun) I think we should fire up an alliance CG and broadcast periodically on /as who has chatter cg or something?

I'm sure we all have crafters/traders that would like this.

Damn nice point, seem like way too meany think they are some sort of police in this /as, and only add too the spam, and then others feel they need too say something, and before u know it /as are a living hell... make a /cg fore this crap keep it out off /as... really no need fore 5 - 10 people too tell 1 too stop spam...

We don't need Myth /as all over agin, when MDoM where there i use too have /as off like 95% off my online time, its not happen here <yet> here i got /as on 100% off my time online so far lets try keep it that way !!!
