I figured out how to manauver in this game. All I have been doing is playing with keys and shooting in the virtual range to learn weapons. Is there a fucking manual for this game? or just fuck around until you figure it all out? I ahte this fucking learning curve

go to planetside.station.sony.com/beta, there isa manual there.
Basic FPS controls, but doesn't do much for you if you have never played one. The 2 second run down, mouse mode for changing your facing and aiming, w is forward, a is strafe left, d is strafe right, s is backwards. C is crouch/kneel. number buttons select weapons, left mouse fires, right mouse weapon changes fire mode (example, the pulsar has 2 modes, the normal mode (the top lil circle next to the weapon where your ammo is) uses 1 energy round per fire, but the second mode use 2 rounds, but is better against vehicles/maxes)
z zooms if your weapon can zoom. r reloads ammo. x changes ammo type (not as much of an issue with VS as tr, which has armor piercing and normal rounds). TAB gives you a mouse cursor.
As far as the types of weapons and vehicles go, play around in the VR some, then go out and get into a fight with everyone else in the guild, ask your questions, then go back to the VR. That base level of seeing what a battle is like changes any decision you might have made.

Got a noob question too: Do the EM granades have any effect on Maxes/vehicals?

I haven't used them on the field yet, but my impression from the description is that it would disable maxs, vehicles, turrets etc. But somethings aren't 100% clear just from their descriptions so dunno. Any of the more experienced PS beta testers know?

Yeah, guys get in game and I will do my best to answer anyquestions, just bear with us if we are fighting.
In the VR simulators, equip EVERYTHING. weapon, armor, max, EVERYTHING. Then you can go to the vehicle VR and get EVERY vehicle, and man EVERY slot if it is a multiperson one (well, you dont need to get into the passanger slots of the sunderer or deliverer I don't think)
You get exp for each of those. Don'thave to shoot it, just "wield" it or wear it or whatever. I think someone said you can get BR3 in about 15-20 mins from just doing that. That gives you 6 points total so not a bad way to figure stuff out.
That said, there is a lot to be gained from just jumping into the action with us. If you join one of us, just follow the leader, and shoot the bad guys. You will figureout more in the first 10 minutes there than an hour in a manual and VR rooms. THEN once you have some battle experience under your belt, go back to the VR and try things out, with a bit more understanding how stuff flows.
Also, remember you can drop any cert you don't like, but you can only drop 1 every 24 hours (thats rl hours and you don't have to be in game). So try things out.
I would recommend getting medium assault for 2 points right away, and as soon as you get your first battle rank level, get the anti infantry MAX (which is a mech warrior suit like thing). When you get medium assault, go to the equipment terminal, clear out your inventory (there is actually a clear button). Go to the armor tab and buy the agile suit, this will give you more inventory slots, and better armor. Then go back to the weapons tab and buy a pulsar, then click on the ammo to the right of the pulsar (box with lightning bolt) and fill up every inventory slot you have with ammo. If you want you can rebuy the pistol (i forget the name) that uses the same ammo, but you will never use it. You may also want to go under, uhh, i forget the tab, special? where there is the hacking tool, again you won't use this for a bit till you figure things out.
Ok, we aren't done yet tho. Now click on the last tab, favorites. Click on number 1, and click save below. Type in Pulsar for the name and enter it. From now on, when out of the field, if you go to a terminal to buy something, it will automatically load you to the favorites tab, and you can click the pulsar line and then click load, or simply press the number 1 to load it faster.
Few other things as I think of them. When on the field, if you die, it will start a really long timer (5 mins maybe?) in which you will respawn in the sanctuary if you dont do anything. However, unless we have a medic, you will generaly click the bar below the timer that says "click to choose respawn" i believe. It will bring upa map, with up to 3 spots near you that you can respawn at. These will be white circles you can click in.
You always respawn next to a equipment terminal, so reload your pulsar and go. Also, if it is a white circle with kind of a line in it, that is an AMS, a type of truck that puts a claoking field around it so you are hidden from view, and the back of it has an equipment terminal. Either way, load up and go towards the action.
If you click M it will open your map screen. The mini explosions are where fighting has taken place recently. If you right click on any area you want to go towards, it will put an arrow there. Click escape to get out of the map, and you will now have a waypoint. There will be an arrow on yoru compass, and when facing it you will see a huge white beam from the sky coming down at it. Also in the map screen, you can click the second button over from the left on the bottom, action i think it is called. There you can choose global view, which shows the whole world. Double click on teh island you want to look at, and get back with global view. Use your mouse wheel to zoom in closer on the map to get down to hte level you can see towers.
Oh, to get out of the sanctuary..There are 2 ways, one you go through the warp gate straight to an island. This is only done typically if you are in a squad or have a vehicle. The other way is to go to the big 2 story building in the center, it has an icon and says Shuttle on it. On the first floor is a door with a timer counting down above it. When it gets to 0:00 you can go through, and it will put you in the drop ship. When it takes off (there is a timer telling you how long) it will load up the global map. Here you can pick an island, and then you can pick nearly ANY spot on the map, except you can't drop down into bases you don't control, only just outside of them.
Bases. When you clone inside of them you are gonna be lost. It sucks. But, you generally want to get to floor number 2. Look at your radar, and look for what looks like stairs. There are also signs outside of most doors, again look for stairs. Get to the second floor. Each type of base is different, but the first floor is alwyas a basement, 2nd floor ground level. It is confusing at first but you will find your way out.
The 2 floor lay outs for bases you generaly see are where you go down a narrow hallway from the terminals (either one) and the stairs are right near you, go up to the second floor, and betweeen the flights of stairs that go back down or up to the 3rd floor, is a hall (not through the door). This leads you to a big room with an exit (the exit door has a wall blocking it, so just look for the wall and go on the other side) There are variations of this lay out but that generaly gets you out.
The other one you go up the stairs to the second floor, go through a door, and on your left is the exit.
Ok last thing before I get back to work. Towers are easy to get out of, buy your stuff, climb the stairs one flight and go out either door. Or go higher to get on the balcony up top and shoot stuff.
Oh yeah, G gets you into/out of a vehicle. To drop out of an airship, use alt-g.
