We are in Phase 7 of the beta test and things are really heating up. The full game is now in place and we'd like you to give it a try. Of course, there's no cost to you and with your help, we can make the game even better.

All we ask from you is that you have fun playing EVE and then tell us about bugs or any other things that bother you. Your information and ideas will be used to improve and balance EVE as we head towards final release on May 6th.

soon after you will receive a confirmation email (If you experience problems with the confirmation, see below.)
then, you'll receive a final email with download instructions (EVE is currently 400 MB)
Keep in mind, you'll be playing under test conditions, so game performance can vary and there may be interruptions to server uptime. But we're sure this experience will be like no other. So, come join the adventure that is EVE, and when the game is released, YOU will already know how to play one of the most anticipated games of 2003.

More people keep coming. Sinister corp continues to gain new share holders each day! Game is a hoot and real soon I expect to be pushing up screen shots of the 'pwnage' as we turn pirate. Here is a list of some of the features of why I consider this 'best mmo ever':

1. Real Guild Structure
Finally a game where ranks have segregated powers (example: Pilots can take ships from corporate hangers but not base members, further since guilds in this game model corporations in real life you can do voting decision on things such as war, replacing your ceo, banning a player, etc.

2. Real economic system
Every single thing in the game can be 'made' cheaper then its bought. Every single thing in this game requires player crafting/resource gathering to support. Every single action in the game has an economic impact. The ways in which the game embraces the economy. There are so many ways to make a living its dizzying. Today the most profiatable of those appears to be a form of 'ninja' mining (where you sneak into guarded areas and plunder guarded treasure), but for you interested here are some examples:

-- You can do training missions for your agent. At about 6-12k a pop at rank 2 for about 10 minutes of work time turns into money.
-- You can play the market, the game has an intricate trade system that allows you to graphically compare supply and demand generated by players or npc trade routes. You can actually buy a 'indy' (industrial ship with alot of cargo) and ferry the needed goods from point a to point b ... for a profit.
-- You can do the 'eq thing' and hunt monsters (or pirates). Shoot them out of the sky loot their gear and collect the bounty.
-- You can do the miner thing, find a asteroid belt mine it for ore and then refine it into precious minerals that are the building blocks of any crafted item in the game.
-- You can do the Pirate thing, hunt players (camp the trade routes or asteroid belts) and loot them for their cargo, their equipped goods.
-- Lastly, you can be a vigalante and while this isnt terribly easy now the game does have infastructur for it with bounties that are collectable and a agent rumor system where they will tell you where they last saw a player.

3. Character growth in this game is entirely skill based. Like UO you dont have levels to worry about. While UO had training dummies you beat on as a newb and later smith hammers you pounded in a macro for str, this game has said 'fuck it' and given players just the ability to raise any skill with time. Your characters stats and a modifier for the individual skill determine the time to rank. But best of all is that these skills rank even if your offline. Thats right folks, look out casual gamers you can compete. Click 'traing laser turrets' before going to work and come up start up your computer and start laster turreting stuff. I heard some estimate at 1+ year to maximize all stats on one character though so most of us will be 'focusing' into an area.

4. Graphics and Sound are simply breathtaking. Never seen a game that actually included a morphing engine for the character designer. Instead of sliding new eye pieces and hair pieces onto a dumb modles head you actually use what I would normally consider graphical morphing tools to stretch or contor any piece of your face into your desired image. Dont even get me started on the speakers shaking my room while warping and the eclipse style effects you get from the sun behind objects, or the breathtaking gasses in space that form unique colors in each and every zone.

5. Combat is more about tactics and decisions then about twitch. While Im normally a big fan of twitch impact in combat in this game it seems 'ok'. You can react to missle and other such long range attacks but most of your combat will involve using orbits, range, and countermeasures to the opponents weapons. Group combat in this game is gonna rock, mark my words.

6. Stability is what we EXPECT from a game. The server goes down once a day at 7-8eastern and is down for maintenance. I've had one lag and one client crash since I bought the game last Wednesday. The client loads in about 3 seconds and can play in windowed or fullscreen mode with no loss of detail or function. The server averages 5k people on it a night and there is no lag and from what I hear they target 10-30k for their clusters. Think about that for a second folks, 30k people in one playing environment.. wow.

Summary:
Eve looks good but it should be noted that I have a bad habit of jumping in and over-enjoying the new phase of games only to blow through the content and be bored in 1-2 months. The trick in this game will be the station building, and the pirating for trade routes. If the player vs player pirating is as engaging and competitive with real world economic impact on micro and macro scale as I think it will be it will be hard to stop this game from being great. Then again, it might all fall to pieces in a few weeks!
