WoW and Tech. Questions
I just talked to Sam on the phone. If you have any tech. questions feel free to list them and I will find the answers if I can. WoW will not support any chat programs do to their code being maxed
.

Although detractors decry (MMA) as a brutal, bloody form of human cockfighting, aficionados know it is a brutal, bloody, totally fucking awesome form of human cockfighting. -The Onion

What OS/HW are they planning on running for the servers? What DB? What kind of DASD?
One thing that I would love to see, depending on how they handle item objects, is the best thing about AO...the ability to send a tell with an item attached so they can see stats. In AO rather than rattling off "ok, I have boots of uber power for sale, +200 power, +10 pimpage" you could do I have ... for sale. the ... would be where you clicked on the item in your inv and dragged it to the chat window line. It then created a hyperlink like thing so that anyone who got the tell/group message/shout could just click on it for full stats. Would make the ends of a raid so much easier to do than rattling of lists of stats.
From a client side, please stress the importance giving the user control over many/all sound and graphic settings. Pretty graphics are real nice until I get into the super huge battle and it slows down a machine. I want to then turn everything off to basic graphics. Only thing I care about at that point is resolution and drawdistance. I want enemies drawn from as far out as possible, yet I don't care at all about what textures/mapping they are using. I always wished DAoC would provide base race avatars that we could turn on. So rather than seeing warcat in his gimpsuit, we would just see an ugly kobold, just like any other kobold. Maybe give a generic weapon/shield or something to tell casters from fighters, but even then it isn't as important. That way you are only loading 16-20 different texture sets at once, one for each race, as opposed to one for each individual. This is mainly for RvR type situations.
Also a few things that would be nice are aliases and nicknames...anyone who played in muds would know what that is. It is similar to the /macro command in daoc... In a mud you could do an alias, such as "alias mm cast magic missle" and then you could just type mm to cast the spell. Less useful in MMORPG's but no reason not to include it really. especialy if you have to talk to an NPC to initiate a quest with some lame greeting. You could then just have /hi aliased to /say Hail great NPC, gimmie your quest!
Nicknames are a variation. Rather than typing out /tell superdinglehelixlongassname you could do /nickname assface superdinglehelixlongassname, and then just /tell assface would go to D. Yes, support like daoc's "first match" system, where all you have to do is type out enough to make it unique is nice, but some people like the same names and have very similar ones.
These are both minor minor things to add. They can grab any mudlib code for the basics, although one would hope they could figure it out on their own given their level.

Venderic, Candide or Mercutio in games.
They need to add the ability to send to a partial name instead of having to type the whole name. It's very nice the way it's done in DAOC.
For example, in WoW if I want to send a tell to Cawkmastar, i have to type /s cawkmastar, where in DAOC, I could just type /s cawk and, unless there was more than one person with *cawk* in his name, it would send to him.

oki.
as for the items thing. thats a yes.. alreadn't in the game.
for the GUI thing.. suspusdly there is a way to edit it and mold it to your play style.. i don't know anything about it tho.
for the /send name thing.. the names get a tad complex like you can have a ` in the middle of your name. so it might be odd for that like daoc has it.
Warriors rock in WoW, i'm actually temped to play it.. it seems like every class i play in the game.. i want to play it at release.. Paladins, so good, great as a healer backup and mini tank, Warlock, GrEAT solo pet class, with dots.. priest, ALWAYS wanted for groups... Mage damage output is insane!, Warriors.. my god, maybe it's just how i speced my, knowing that i will besuffering LOTs of downtime for not having any self healing abiltiy like (EVERY OTHER DMAN CLASS IN THE GAME!)
-mages create there own food and mana potions
-priest heal themsels and have mana regen and rez
-paladins heal themseles and have heal regen chant and rez
-warlocks have instant heals and instant mana pops, aswell as a kick ass stone they create which if the player dies.. he can come back to life auto where he died.(how fucking great it that!) they are the perfect solo class!
but how i speced my warrior was to avoid downtime.. all my level talent points i put into Spirit(increase health/mana regen rate).. most players put it into stam(more hitponms) or str, and all that other shit.. but whats the point of having all those hitpoints, if after a battle, you have to rest for 5 hours?!
i rest for 3 seconds, and i'll fully loaded.
also, i picked up 2 GREAt trade skills for the poorman that spends all his cash on weapons and armor.
Fishing, and firstaid..
Fishing, currently works as a mini game, you basiclly fish up weapons/armor/sell loot/fish which you can eat to heal.. all for free.. perfect skill for the poor man to pick up a quik snack.
then first aid! GREAT for the solo warrior, to lower downtime ALOT.. all the supplies for first aid you gain on the field from killing humnod mobs..(linen) and you turn them into bandaids, and boom.. first aid! after ocmbat, pop one on.. and bingo, your set.
another great skill is leatherworking(i really think we need to have each player in our WoW bwc focus on 1 tradeskill.. just to be able to build the best gear in the game. leatherworkers make armor patches.. they take your crapy armor.. and upgrade the AF on it... SICK! i think they are also the class that makes a shield spike(a spike that you put on your shield so when you block someone.. they trake damage!)
for the PvE aspect of the game.. so far it's amaizng.. i can't wait to see what they do with AvH.
