Somewhere in downtown Las Vegas, I watch five quiet poker tables in a dark backroom where people play Texas Hold’em poker for hundreds of dollars each hand. Two ice-cold beers are in one hand and a Newport Light in my other. I begin to estimate the cost of playing a few hands at the less expensive tables. I can swing it. Sure, fuck it, I mean this is Vegas, the heart of World Championship Poker at Binion’s Horseshoe. People have played for millions of dollars at these very same tables. Shit, second place even gets half a mil.
I walk away before I do something drastic. It is five thirty in the morning, back to the LVC for more drinks. Whats the L stand for again? Fuck.
What’s that sir? Six dollars for that last round? No No, I was paying for all of those drinks. Really? Three Buds and three shots of SoCo for Six dollars. Gil you’re the man!
Gil [“Can I get a cup ice to chill my bottle of SoCo”]. Hasem [from Bulgaria]. Sang [“You fucking idiot.”]. Robert. Carol. Mike the pit boss, Mike the Limo “driver”, and Mike from Louisiana who doesn’t cut cards for very good fucking reasons. The lesson I learned is that Vegas is filled with people willing to take care of you (and your money).

Seeing a man eat five “cookies” is funny. Seeing that man slowly loose a “normal” perception of the world we live in is entertaining. Seeing a man sit down at a blackjack table while in this altered start is alarming, but compelling at the same time. I can’t wait to see video footage of a man who has eaten five “cookies” and then enters a strange condition of observation shortly before losing forty dollars [through an obvious deception by those in charge of the Horseshoe Casino] and wandering the streets of Las Vegas [note: Las Vegas has many pretty lights].
