Is this guy the best sports story sense the 80 Miracle on Ice. I do not follow cycling but the Tour may be the most gruling physical contest on earth and this guy dominates after defeating cancer.

/cheers Lance

Absolutely.

Winning five Tour de France's in a row, despite rabid Anti-American sentiment among the crowds there, makes it even more of an impressive achievement.

Plus, he's nailing Sheryl Crow, which is more than enough to make him a hero in my eyes.

6 in a row Phineas!!!

A huge achievement indeed. But not as amazing as the Miracle on Ice.

I'm not sure anything could top that.

There was a good pre tour show that focussed on the US postal team.

I'm a newb in terms of cycling knowledge but it seems that his victory depended on other great riders in the team breaking the wind for him etc. throughout stages of the race.

No doubt and amazing accomplishment but it's a team effort from what I saw.

true enough about the team effort, but is not like it was a "close" race, and also all the other people had teams as well.

You still say Michael Jordan is one of the best basketball players ever. Even though it took a team for him to 3peat.

Miracle on ice is probably the best sports stories in American history(imo), but as far as pure athleticism... Lance Armstrong is up there. And he beat cancer!
