hey, me and psych have been playing some online poker recently with fake money for kicks at partypoker.com, and its been kinda fun.
anyone else like doing this stuff? i can't do it from work though for obvious reasons so only after work during the time i'd normally be playing daoc or something. the free tournaments are kinda neat as well.
psych actually isn't too bad at it, considering i had to teach him how to play hold'em on saturday.

Poker has been my parttime job after work for quite some time. Mosthula plays a lot too. We have a group of about 40 locals who play in various tourneys and games housed live, have built tables, use only KEM cards and real chips, etc.
I bonus whore a bit right now as I had to withdraw some funds to pay for the wedding, building back up a roll. I am on paradise poker right now, but have mostly played party poker. I tend to play 2 to 3 3/6$ tables at once. Only just moved to paradise this weekend and only played 2 2/4$ tables while getting used to there interface and getting a feel for their players. I find it far more profitable to play multiple 3/6 tables than to play 1 5/10 table as you have to pay more attention. The players are much more loose/passive at 3/6, so you can make more BB/hour there by playing smart (boring) poker, add in the multi table aspect, and you make considerably more at that limit. Sitting up around 140$ after a couple hours, so loving the site so far, not to mention the 200$ in free bonus money.
Party is by far the craziest site for players I have played at, and dominates all other sites in sheer # of players. Ultimatebet has the "best" players per level, in that you don't have the idiots so much, rather a bunch of straight forward by the book players. Empire=party. UB also has the most "Cheap" tourneys you can play in.

That's a good idea...
Let's set something up
Candide,
You should post a warning before start talking about online gambling... some of us might have a problem and you're not helping to dissuade us.

lubu made $2000 this weekend at the 10/20 tables
when he hits $6000 he's hitting the 30/60 tables.
i'm tempted myself. these online poker people suck ass.
even lubu sucks ass. i was handing him humiliation after humiliation, and yet if he can still run the tables for $2000 (starting with $500), I could make double that!!!!!
OMG!

THere is a huge difference between short and longterm success. Anyone can get on a run of cards and make huge swings. It isn't that easy, if it was all these guys you see on tv would never leave home. A person who makes their living off of live poker is happy with 1 BB (big bet) per hour rate, and is considered excellent if he can make 2. Online, the range is 2-4 BB/hour. This is over the course of 6 months to ayear. Anything less than that is too short term to base anything off of.
Also, no matter how good you may be, you WILL have bad streaks. I would seriously suggest WAY more than 6k for 30/60, unless you have the money to drop in when you loose it. For a pro, you want around 300BB as a bankroll to handle any swings. Of course is this is just fun, and if you bust out you can just add more.
Be careful at the big tables. There are several people who work with each other to run tables. There is even software out there for it. Kinda like aim, you can plug in your friends, connect with each other, and if you are at the same table, it will auto display your cards on his screen and his on yours. More cards you know more info you have, plus two people together can do raise/reraise to isolate pots.
