After you recieve your computer, do the following:
Open the case like this (requires no tools! just push a button):
Insert this card:
into the brown slot here. Requires no tools! Not even a screwdriver!! just open the green clamp, insert, and close the green clamp:
Insert this RAM:
Into slots labelled #1 and #2 (you can see the numbers on the side). Requires no tools! just push it in!.
Close computer. Should look like this:
Turn on computer. Insert Windows XP CD (buy it if you don't have it already, or get someone to mail you a pirate copy). Follow on screen directions. You're set!
If you have any problems, call this number: 1-800-624-9896 Or you can call me (or khaja). With this computer, you get 24 hour free support for 1yr, and free on-site parts and labor. So if nothing happens, call the 1800 #, and a guy will be dispatched to your house with a giant truck full of supplies by the next day.
Note... this is my current computer. It has hyperthreading. It can run 2 windows of DAoC flawlessly. I constantly participate in 100-person ML raids in Stygia and Aerus, the most notoriously laggy zones, and I'm still able to play 2 characters simultaneously on the same computer better than most people can play 1 character alone.
I actually have a much worse video card. I use a GeForce4 Ti4400 with 128mb of RAM running at 1600x1200, with 2 DAoC windows side by side at 1024x768 each window. I usually have IRC/AoL running in one corner, and a DVD playing in other corner (DAoC raids are that boring). That is how fast this computer is. $694, you can't go wrong. 1yr onsite next-day parts/labor is amazing as well... ON SITE!!! don't have to leave your house. they carry most replacement parts on the truck, so instant repair/replacement in most cases.
An equivalent athlon64 computer:
Asus K8V Deluxe: $140
ATI Radeon Pro : $223 (for 9800 pro), $138 for (9600 pro)
Athlon64 3000+: $221
Respectable HSF for CPU: $30
Decent Case / PS: $50
1gb PC3200 RAM: $221 for 2-3-2-4, $158 for 2.5-4-4-6
40gb 7200RPM HD: $50
52X CD-ROM: $20
Total: $955 +EXPENSIVE SHIPPING (ESPECIALLY SHIPPING THAT CASE AROUND), and bad warranties (30-90 days if you're lucky, since all OEM parts, except for maybe the hard drive and video card.. but then you have to deal with getting them replaced, etc etc.. pain in the ass working with these small cheap taiwanese companies, or ordering from these god-knows-where internet vendors). Plus, you have to put it together, or pay/ship it to someone else to do it for you. Plus, its actually worse for dual-logging in, because of lack of hyper-threading. What happens without hyperthreading is, you have 1 window that runs really really smoothly and fast (usually the one you're actively playing), and the 2nd window is usually choppy and slow, which causes him to lag and unable to AF many times. This is crappy for playing 2 windows at once.
