Alrighty, next question. How much improvements on battery life can I get out of a pentium M vs a p4.

Looking at the 8600 dell with 1.6g WUXGA, 512m blah blah vs the 9100 w 2.8g WUXGA 512m.

For the same price I can get the two systems nearly identical setup, except the 9100 has a 60g drive where the 8600 has a 40g drive. Not a huge deal to me.

I don't plan to game on it a lot, but use it for school and while playing poker at home. I do travel a bit, and battery life is more important to me. If it is a big difference, I might go with the 8600. If not I'll just get the 9100.

You can save like $500 without the paintjob and get it at:

I highly highly recommend this laptop for gaming/travelling/desktop replacement.

Its about 5.5 lbs, pretty good sound built in, and a 128mb radeon 9700 mobility in there. of course, i configured mine with a dvd burner, 1gb of ram, 80gb hd, built in 802.11 a/b/g, etc.

My previous laptop was the Dell Inspiron 7500 (which I paid $4000 for at the time), and let me tell you, heavy/thick notebooks are a fucking pain in the ass to travel with. I don't care if you're a fucking 400lbs weightlifter who carries camels across the sahara, lugging around a 5lb 1" laptop vs a 10lbs 2" behemoth is a noticeable difference.

Dell D600 - 1.2" thick, ~4.5-5lbs.

Dell 9100 - 2" thick, ~9-10lbs.

Yeah, D's roommate was saying that the 9100 is huge. I found apicture where it was thicker than a complete works of shakespeare book (which I happen to have that exact book, so it really hammered in how thick it was).

I went with the 8600. I don't want quite a desktop replacement, but I didn't want the pure travel type either. I wanted a 15" wide screen with the highest resolution (I like small type size) for playing multitabled poker and watching dvd's on trips.

I got it with 1.6 pentium M (everything I've seen says it benchmarks the same as a 2.2ish desktop P4). 64m nvidia card, 512m. 40g was plenty for what I want to do with it, didn't need a dvd writer so got the 24x cdrw/dvd that came with it. a/b/g was only 20$ due to free wireless deal, and I had a 20% off coupon, plus free shipping, and a free printer that I don't need at all hehe.

Only other thing I got was an extra battery.

Now I just have to get over looking like an idiot in class with a laptop instead of paper/pen. Only thing I hate about school is writing so much. Not the tests, reading, studying, research, paper writing, its the damn taking notes during class.
