Guildwars PVP writeup - sounds cool

Postby Joshll » Fri Oct 29, 2004 12:01 pm

Found this on VN. Sounds like the 8v8 arena people have asked for in DAOC forever:

Ok the tourni seems to have a mixed bag of hardcore pvpers and ppl who dont have a clue.. I went in it for first time today, After a few losses and wins I joined a new team.... there were 7 of us (no monk!).. we lasted 3 hours undefeated and then it broke and wouldnt give us any more teams! Was real fun though.

Heres a couple of screenies of us after it broke and stopped allowing ppl in...

We all attained rank 3 after this mamoth victory session. Well played all.

Anyway so I can now explain how the arenas work so that you can go out and p0wn some noobs!

You start by going to the map screen and all the way to the east is a place called something tomb. Go here.

Just like a mission place.. ppl forming grps etc. Join a grp and dont be too fussy.. every class has something to offer. We owned the arena without a primary monk and with only 7 of us taking on upto 3 grps of 8. So have fun then start building opted grps if you must.

Enter the mission and you have to protect this guy from undead. This is basically a holding area.. you fight NPC undeads for about 2 minutes then it takes you into the arena to fight.

There are several different arenas to start with.. Some you start at a shrine with a priest. This priest stays there and can heal you if you stay close. But more importantly if you die after a few minutes he will REZ you back to the shrine. There can be upto 4 teams of 8 on this arena (like most) sometimes you have to just beat one team then it opens up more of the arena for you to hunt the other teams etc. If your priest dies then no more rezing and you will most likely lose.

One arena has flags and flag stands.. if you put your flag into a flag stand (which is not owned or enemy owned) then that stand is owned by your team.. If any enemy gets close to it they will be hit for around 55 dmg every 5 seconds or so. Quite handy to stage a defence near one.

Other arenas there is just a ghostly guard helper guy and not much else.. get out there and fight!

Once you have won a few of the above arenas you come to the capture the flag arena... Its a relic actually but you get the idea. This is 8v8 and if you get the enemys relic back to your base you get some sort of enchantment (not sure what it is).

Then you get to the shiny gold arenas.. again these occasionally have shrines (no flags though).

Then the final arena type is brought in.. 'King of the hill'. You have to get your unholy guard guy onto a platform in the middle of the arena.. If you get him there then your team own the platform and the only way for another team to take it.. is by moving their guard onto the platform. If you own the platform when the timer elapses then you win.. simple really.

After a few more of these you reach the final map.. this basically starts you very near the platform.. your team can easily get your guard down to the platform before the other teams get anywhere close to it. This is the advantage of being the victors i guess.

On these maps you also auto rez after so many minutes. If you own the platform then you rez onto it.. if you dont you rez back at your starting point.

There are many tactics on all the arenas.. one thing is to try and not be the focus of all the enemy teams.. if they are fighting each other its easier for you to work.

Anyway.. hope this little bit of tourni info helps.

One main point is.. like i said we only had 7.. and we all used good skill to get through the many arenas and defeat all the opposing teams fairly.. however.. the final arena wasnt too much of skill on our part. Not many of the enemy teams knew that they had to bring theur guard to the platform (although it tells you at the start of the lvl).. so we would claim the platform.. have a big hearty battle.. die get rezzed die again etc.. just like all the teams. But many times the timer would run to zero and we would win cos the other teams hadnt claimed the platform!

We came across some very good built teams (especially koreans) who were warrior heavy and rolled us.. but they didnt seem to understand the rules and we would win lol.

So get your guard to the platform and protect him! If he dies he will rez after so long. Oh and the opposing teams guard is priority target!!

Enough rambling.. enjoy.
